Waukesha - The city was named Thursday as one
of the 100 Best Communities for Young People because of the work of the
Waukesha Youth Collaborative, which directs children and families to community
service.
The announcement coincided with the
winter meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. Mayor Larry
Nelson was on hand to accept the award.
America's Promise - The Alliance
for Youth, a group founded by retired Gen. Colin Powell, judged each entry by
how a community fulfilled "promises" for resources youths need to
succeed: caring adults, safe places to learn and grow, a healthy start toward
adulthood and effective education.
